He's not the Messiah!

According to this week’s Sunday Times, Richard Dawkins, author and general god basher, is helping launch a children’s summer camp, which, along with the usual outdoor pursuits, will teach evolution and rational scepticism. As non believer myself, this might actually be a “Good Thing” –children experience the great outdoors and get taught to think for themselves about life the universe and everything. Even if the good Mr Dawkins does sometimes come across as bombastic and narrow minded as many of the religious types he arbores. My problem with the venture is that the children will be sitting round the campfire of an evening singing John Lennon’s “Imagine.” I mean, really? I hope this is just a colourful addition of the newspaper’s* and not actually happening, because the prospect of making children sing that mawkish dirge [the sincerity of which is deeply flawed and most of it’s “meaning” wrapped up in the fact that it’s author was murdered] is enough to make me want to call social services. While I understand that the devil gets all the best tunes, is that really the best song that the anti-god bunch could come up with? Suggestions, on a postcard to the usual address.

*strike me down with a lawsuit for suggesting that newspapers sometimes make things up.
